Welcome to amateur radio! This page helps you take the first steps toward earning your licence in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The three steps
- Study the basic qualification question bank (available free from RAC and ISED).
- Pass the multiple-choice exam (50 questions, 70% pass mark). The exam is administered by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) through accredited volunteers.
- Apply for your call sign via ISED. Once you pass, you’ll receive instructions on how to do this.

SONRA runs local exam sessions and offers mentoring for new hams in Newfoundland and Labrador.
